Quick Links

Getting Started

  1. Open Skopi and tap Allow when iOS asks for camera access — the camera is the only permission you need to start scanning.
  2. Point your iPhone at a QR code or barcode. Skopi auto-detects and saves the result to your private on-device history.
  3. Tap a result to open a link, copy text, save a contact, join a Wi-Fi network, or look up a product. Long-press a result in History to share or delete it.
  4. Want to create a code instead? Tap the Create tab to generate a QR code for a URL, plain text, Wi-Fi network, contact card, email, phone, or SMS.

QR & Barcode Scanning

Which codes can Skopi scan?

Skopi recognizes the following formats out of the box, using Apple’s on-device Vision framework:

QR EAN-13 EAN-8 UPC-A UPC-E Code 128 Code 39 Code 93 PDF417 Aztec Data Matrix ITF-14 Interleaved 2 of 5

This covers virtually every QR code, retail product barcode, package label, and 2D code you’ll encounter in the wild.

How do I switch between QR and barcode mode?

The Scanner has a small mode picker below the “Skopi” logo with three options:

  • Auto — detects QR codes and barcodes simultaneously. Best for everyday use.
  • QR — locks detection to QR codes. Slightly faster, and avoids accidentally scanning a stray barcode in frame.
  • Barcode — locks detection to retail and shipping barcode formats (EAN, UPC, Code 128, ITF-14, etc.). Best for shopping, inventory, and product lookups.

Your choice is remembered between sessions.

How do I scan a code from a photo I already have?

Tap the Gallery button at the bottom of the Scanner. Pick the image — Skopi only sees the photo you select, never your full library, thanks to the modern photo picker.

What is Batch Scan?

Batch Scan (a Skopi Pro feature) lets you scan multiple codes back-to-back without the result sheet popping up between them. Each unique code is silently added to History, perfect for inventory or ticket-checking workflows. Tap End Batch to review them.

How does product lookup work?

When Skopi recognizes an EAN-13/EAN-8/UPC product barcode, it looks up the product name, brand, and image from the public Open Food Facts catalog. The lookup uses only the barcode digits and never any personal information about you. If a product isn’t in the catalog, you’ll still see the raw code.

Creating QR Codes

What can I create?

From the Create tab you can turn the following into a scannable QR code:

  • URL — any web link Free
  • Text — plain text up to several KB Free
  • Wi-Fi — SSID + password, scanned to auto-join Pro
  • Contact (vCard) — name, phone, email, address, organization Pro
  • Email — mailto with optional subject and body Pro
  • Phone — tel: link Pro
  • SMS — SMS prefilled with number and message Pro

Tap Save to write the code to Photos, or Share to send it via Messages, AirDrop, email, etc.

Can I customize colors and add a logo?

Yes — with Skopi Pro. You can pick from preset color palettes, set custom foreground and background colors, and drop a logo (such as your brand mark) into the center of the code. Skopi keeps the logo small enough that the code remains scannable.

Skopi Pro

A free trial is offered for both Monthly and Yearly plans. You won’t be charged during the trial and can cancel anytime in iPhone Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions. Pricing is shown in your local currency at checkout.
How do I restore a purchase on a new device?

Sign in to the same Apple ID you used to purchase, then open Skopi and go to Settings → Restore Purchases, or tap Restore Purchases on the paywall screen. Skopi Pro is tied to your Apple ID and works across every device signed in to that account.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Subscriptions are managed entirely by Apple, not by Skopi. To cancel: open iPhone Settings → tap your name at the top → SubscriptionsSkopiCancel Subscription. You’ll continue to have Pro access until the end of the current billing period.

How do I get a refund?

Apple handles refunds for all App Store purchases. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with your Apple ID, find the Skopi charge, and select “Request a Refund”. Email us if there’s anything we can help clarify on Apple’s side.

Privacy & Security

Where is my scan history stored?

Only on your iPhone. Skopi has no servers, no accounts, and no cloud sync. Your scan history is stored in a local on-device database (Apple’s SwiftData) and is encrypted at rest by iOS using your device passcode.

Read the full Privacy Policy.

How do I lock the app with Face ID?

Open Settings → App Lock in Skopi (Pro feature) and enable Face ID. Once enabled, Skopi will require authentication every time the app is opened or returns from the background.

Why am I seeing ads? Can I turn them off?

Ads keep Skopi free for everyone. They’re served by Google AdMob, never overlap the camera viewfinder, and are frequency-capped. Two ways to turn them off:

  • Upgrade to Skopi Pro — instantly removes all ads.
  • Decline tracking in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking → Skopi to stop personalized ads (you’ll still see non-personalized ads in the free tier).
How do I delete all my scan history?

Open Settings → Clear All History in Skopi to wipe every saved scan. To delete a single entry, swipe left on it in the History tab and tap Delete. Uninstalling Skopi removes the local database in full.

Troubleshooting

The camera doesn’t open.

Skopi needs camera access to scan. Open iPhone Settings → Skopi → Camera and make sure it’s enabled. If it’s already on, force-quit the app (swipe up in the App Switcher) and reopen.

The scanner can’t detect my code.

A few things to try:

  • Hold the iPhone 6–12″ (15–30 cm) from the code and let it auto-focus.
  • If the room is dim, tap the Flash button to turn on the torch.
  • For long, narrow product barcodes (EAN, UPC, Code 128), switch the mode to Barcode; for square codes, use QR. Auto handles both but can be slightly slower in tricky lighting.
  • Wipe the camera lens — smudges are the #1 cause of failed scans.
  • For codes printed at very small sizes, get closer until the code fills at least a quarter of the framing brackets.
I purchased Pro but don’t see my features.

Tap Restore Purchases in Settings or on the paywall screen. Make sure you’re signed into the same Apple ID you used to purchase. If your purchase is still pending Family Sharing approval (“Ask to Buy”), it will activate once approved.

My older scans say “locked.” Are they gone?

No. The free tier shows your most recent 15 scans. Older entries are still safely on your device — they’ll all become visible the moment you start a Pro trial or subscription, and they’re never auto-deleted.

App Lock won’t accept my Face ID.

If Face ID is locked out by iOS, Skopi will fall back to your device passcode. Re-enable Face ID in iPhone Settings → Face ID & Passcode → Skopi if needed.
