StatusRunner

Privacy & Support

Your Mac's activity stays on your Mac. We collect nothing.

01 Privacy Policy

The short version

StatusRunner does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal information — ever.

Everything the app measures about your Mac is read on-device, shown to you, and then discarded. There is no StatusRunner server, no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party tracking of any kind. You don't create an account and you never tell us who you are.

02 What the app reads

Read locally, shown to you, kept nowhere

To draw the runner and the dashboard, StatusRunner reads live system information through standard Apple APIs. This information is displayed on your screen and held only in memory while the app runs. None of it leaves your device.

  • System metrics — CPU, memory, disk capacity, battery, and network throughput, used to animate the runner and populate the dashboard.
  • Running processes — process names and CPU usage for the "top processes" list (a Pro feature), read on demand and never stored.
  • Your settings — your chosen runner, colors, and layout are saved locally in the standard macOS preferences store on your Mac, for your use only.

03 Custom metrics & the network

You choose the sources; requests come from your Mac

StatusRunner's optional custom metrics let you point the app at your own data. When you do, the connection is between your Mac and the source you entered — StatusRunner has no server in the middle and never receives a copy.

  • Files you pick — JSON files you explicitly select through the system open panel. Access is read-only and remembered with a security-scoped bookmark so you don't have to re-pick it. The app is sandboxed and cannot read files you haven't chosen.
  • HTTP endpoints you enter — if you configure an HTTP custom metric, your Mac fetches directly from the URL you typed, on the schedule you set. Whatever you send to that endpoint is governed by that endpoint's own privacy practices, not ours.

The app requests outgoing-network access for exactly two things: these custom-metric endpoints, and Apple's App Store / StoreKit for the optional purchase below.

04 Purchases

Handled entirely by Apple

StatusRunner offers a single optional one-time "Pro" unlock. The purchase and any restore are processed by Apple through the App Store. Apple does not share your name, card, or billing details with us — we only receive an anonymous signal from your device that a valid purchase exists. We never see or store payment information.

05 Children & changes

Everyone, safely

Because StatusRunner collects no data from anyone, it collects no data from children. The app is rated suitable for all ages.

If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date. Meaningful changes to how the app handles information will be reflected here before they take effect.

06 Support

Common questions

How do I restore my Pro purchase?

Open StatusRunner → Settings → Pro and choose Restore Purchases. Pro is a one-time unlock tied to your Apple Account, so it restores on any Mac you're signed in to — at no extra cost.

Is my data really private?

Yes. StatusRunner is sandboxed, collects nothing, and has no analytics or servers. Everything you see is measured on your Mac and shown only to you. See the privacy sections above for the full detail.

What's in the free version vs. Pro?

The free app is complete: four original runners, the live metrics dashboard, the menu bar readouts, and the custom metrics system. Pro is a one-time unlock that adds the full catalog of 100 runners, top-processes, load-tinting, custom PNG runners, and the ability to drive the runner from any custom metric.

The runner disappeared from my menu bar.

StatusRunner runs without a Dock icon by design. If the menu bar is crowded, macOS may hide it — try widening the menu bar area, or quit and relaunch the app. If it's still missing, email support below and we'll help.

Does it drain my battery?

No. StatusRunner caps its frame rate, coalesces timers, throttles on battery power, and stops entirely when the display sleeps. You can also enable reduced motion on battery in Settings.
