Found a bug, or have an idea that would make Setpiece better? Email arrives directly to the developer and every message is read.

When reporting a bug, it helps to include your macOS version, your Mac model, and the steps to reproduce the issue. The in-app Report an Issue button (Settings ▸ About) pre-fills all of this for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Scene?

A Scene is a saved workspace — a set of apps, each placed in a region of your display. Activate a Scene from the menu bar or a keyboard shortcut and Setpiece launches the apps that aren't open yet and positions them all at once. With Setpiece Pro, a Scene can also activate automatically when you connect or disconnect a display.

What's the difference between Setpiece Free and Setpiece Pro?

Setpiece Free includes one Scene, with nothing else held back: put as many apps in it as you like, place each one anywhere on any display, give it a global keyboard shortcut, and use the Scene palette and menu bar. The free Scene launches and arranges your whole workspace exactly like a paid one.

Setpiece Pro adds unlimited Scenes — a staged workspace for every project instead of just one — and display automation, which stages a Scene by itself the moment you connect or disconnect a display. It's sold as a one-time purchase or a yearly subscription with a free trial; you can see both prices on the paywall in the app (menu bar ▸ Unlock Setpiece Pro).

How do I create a Scene?

Open Settings ▸ Scenes. Either Capture Current Arrangement to snapshot the windows you have open now, or build one by hand: add apps and choose which display and region each should go to. You can assign a keyboard shortcut to every Scene. Setpiece Free keeps one Scene; Setpiece Pro removes the limit.

How do I activate a Scene?

Click it in the menu-bar dropdown, press the keyboard shortcut you assigned to it, or open the Scene palette (default ⌃⌥Space), type a few letters of the Scene's name, and press Return. Setpiece launches any apps that aren't running and positions every window in one step.

Can I have workspaces set themselves up automatically?

Yes, with Setpiece Pro. Give a Scene the trigger When a display is connected or When a display is disconnected (in the Scene editor). Dock your Mac and your full multi-monitor workspace assembles itself; undock and drop into a focused single-screen Scene — no clicking.

I bought Setpiece Pro — how do I unlock it on another Mac?

Sign in to the same Apple Account and click Restore Purchases, on the paywall or in Settings ▸ About. Your purchase is tied to your Apple Account, not to one machine. If you took the yearly plan, you can review or cancel it any time from System Settings ▸ your name ▸ Media & Purchases ▸ Subscriptions — the paywall also links straight there once a subscription is active.

Will a Scene fit a different-sized display?

Yes. Each app's region is stored proportionally rather than as fixed pixels, so a Scene authored on your laptop reproduces correctly on an external monitor of a different size.

Can I share a Scene with someone else?

Yes — each Scene can be exported to a file from Settings ▸ Scenes and imported on another Mac, so you can share or version-control your workspace setups.

Why does Setpiece need Accessibility permission?

macOS requires explicit permission before any app may move or resize another app's windows. Setpiece uses the system Accessibility API solely to position windows when you activate a Scene — nothing else. Grant it in System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Accessibility.

My shortcuts stopped working. What do I do?

Open System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Accessibility and check that Setpiece is listed and switched on. If it is already on, toggle it off and on once. This can be needed after an app update.

Can I stop Setpiece from touching a certain app?

Yes — add it under Settings ▸ Behavior ▸ Excluded Apps and Setpiece will leave that app's windows alone, even if it's part of a Scene.

Privacy Policy

Effective date: August 3, 2026

The short version

Setpiece collects no data. Period.

Data collection

Setpiece does not collect, store, transmit, sell, or share any personal information or usage data. There are no analytics, no trackers, no advertising identifiers, and no third-party SDKs. There is no account to create and no server operated by the developer.

Purchases

Setpiece Pro is sold through Apple's In-App Purchase system. The only network connections Setpiece makes are to Apple's App Store, to confirm a purchase and to check whether Setpiece Pro is unlocked on your Apple Account. Payment is handled entirely by Apple — the developer never sees or stores your name, email, payment details, or Apple Account information. Apple's handling of that transaction is covered by Apple's Privacy Policy. Purchase terms are covered by the Licensed Application End User License Agreement.

What stays on your Mac

Your settings (preferences, excluded apps) and saved Scenes are stored locally on your Mac and never leave it.

Accessibility permission

Setpiece asks for macOS Accessibility permission only so it can launch and position windows when you activate a Scene. This permission is never used to read your screen content, log keystrokes, or observe your activity.

Email

If you choose to contact support or send feedback, your email is used solely to respond to you and is never shared with anyone.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be published on this page with a new effective date.
